Blood, Bands and Brew for a cure

This summer, we started organizing a major blood drive and fundraising event called "Blood, Bands and Brew for a Cure" which took place last weekend in Albuquerque and was a huge success! New Mexico is facing a critical blood shortage and, according to our partner, Vitalant Blood Services, there is less than a three-day supply of most blood types available. This is an issue very near to our hearts because throughout Sebas' 10 rounds of chemo, he needed 36 transfusions, and without any one of those he would not be alive to fight this disease today. With each transfusion we found ourselves overwhelmed with gratitude to those who had donated this life-saving blood. We’ve since been on a mission to raise awareness about this need and encourage blood donations in our community. We are happy to share that the blood donated from this event will potentially save up to 50 lives.

We are also excited to announce that through the generosity of our event sponsors, we raised over $25,000! These funds will go directly to pediatric cancer research and a cure for MEC. Special thanks to our event co-hosts, Explora!, Vitalant, and Canteen Brewhouse! Also, so much gratitude to our major sponsors: Bernalillo County Commissioners Eric Olivas, Barbara Baca, and Adriann Barboa, Albuquerque City Councilors Pat Davis and Tammy Fiebelkorn, Mati Jewelers, the Law Firm of Hall, Monagle, Huffman, and Wallace, McCune Charitable Foundation and the Law Offices of Carlos E. Martinez.
