Launching cureMEC
Every moment that we have not been tending to Sebas and his brother Santiago, we have spent frantically researching MEC and what we can do to give him the best chance of survival. In that process, and with the help of many dear friends, we have started a new non-profit organization, cureMEC, dedicated to finding and funding a cure for Myoepithelial Carcinoma and becoming an informational resource for other patients and families battling this devastating disease.
In late 2021, we partnered with the Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute (cc-TDI) to establish the first Myoepithelial Carcinoma (MEC) research program, in honor of Sebas. This study aims to advance our knowledge of MEC, explore and test treatment options, and work to develop a cure. This was a critical first step towards our mission and we are beyond grateful to cc-TDI for their kindness and generosity.
To support our work, we have launched a “Besos (kisses) for Sebas” fundraising campaign that will help fund this important research and help us with his medical expenses. Could you send a "beso" to Sebas by making a donation to our new GoFundMe page? Please share this with your friends, family and anyone who you think would be moved to give. We are trying to raise $100,000 by Sebas’ birthday on May 3rd, and we can do it with your help. Any amount is great!
You can also join "Team Sebas" on Facebook and Twitter. Please share widely!
Just like being a parent, every ounce of this work has been a labor of love. To research a cancer your child is fighting is essentially to explore your worst nightmare. But we have no other choice, our baby is fighting for his life and we are determined to fight beside him.
