MEC study at Washington University in St. Louis

In 2024, cureMEC was proud to partner with Dr. Brian Van Tine at the John T. Milliken Department of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis.

Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, in partnership with cureMEC, has awarded a $50,000 grant to Dr. Brian Van Tine at Washington University in St. Louis to support his novel childhood cancer research idea that directly addresses myoepithelial carcinoma (MEC). Congratulations, Dr. Van Tine!

In summary, he and his research team will be looking at proteins on the surface of MEC cells—like signposts on a road—to find new ways to target and treat this cancer, especially when driven by a fusion called EWSR1-KLF15. Their goal is to find which surface proteins are important for MEC and test new treatments like antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and cellular therapies.

We are thrilled to invest early in the best novel ideas for innovative cancer research, which will help get us one step closer to our mission of finding better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for MEC.
